Anacortes High School alumni jump-started a new effort at their 50th class reunion this year by appealing to attendees for donations to the Anacortes Schools Foundation.  The Foundation awards many scholarships to local students each year in May, and the Alumni Award goes to a student with financial need of whom all alumni would be proud.  It's a special scholarship funded with heartfelt donations.

With college costs skyrocketing, the Foundation board suggests a minimum of $500 per scholarship; less than that doesn't go very far these days, and adds to the foundation's all-volunteer time commitments to administer.  So far, the Alumni Scholarship Fund has $1,864, enough for three scholarships.

Here's a challenge:  If the fund receives an additional $636 in donations before March 1, the Foundation can award three scholarships to deserving students and, at the same time, retain $1000 to begin building an endowment for the fund which would, in time, fund three scholarships regardless of the effort made to secure new donations.

Please help us help our Anacortes kids!  If you attended our schools and want to give forward to help our students now, please send your checks to the Anacortes Schools Foundation, 2200 M Ave., Anacortes, WA 98221.  Please write Alumni Fund on the memo line of your check.  Since the Foundation Board Selection Committee chooses the scholarship recipients, your donations are fully tax-deductible according to the law.  You will receive a prompt letter of acknowledgement for your tax records.
