Santa Claus came early to the Anacortes schools this year, disguised as an anonymous donor from the community, who gave $20,000 to the Anacortes Schools Foundation. The donation is one of the largest received this year.
Half will go to AVID, the Advancement Via Individual Determination program, which prepares prepares under-served students for four-year college eligibility by supporting their academic and motivational needs. AVID targets students in the academic middle who are willing to work hard and have a desire to go to college. These students are capable of completing rigorous course work but are falling short of their academic potential. AVID requires students to take courses which will put them on the college track, utilizing acceleration instead of remediation.

Supporting Anacortes Schools and Students Since 1984!

The Anacortes Schools Foundation is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) volunteer organization which functions independently of the school district for the benefit of our students, educators, and community.
Created from just one family's donation in 1984, ASF now manages more than $1.3 million in assets and distributes more than $60,000 in annual scholarships. Originally known as the Fidalgo Island Educational Youth Foundation, Anacortes Schools Foundation's mission is to:
- Grant scholarship awards to students
- Assist educators in their professional development
- Support educational programs in the Anacortes School District
The ASF believes passionately in the importance of community awareness and involvement in our schools. We sponsor the annual All-Class Reunion and the annual Awards Night where scholarships are presented to our selected students. We welcome students, parents, alumni and community members of all ages to make inquiries at any time. If you would like to know more, please contact us now!
