Marya Marshall
For new board director Marya Marshall, one of the main reasons for joining the board is its immense impact on our community.
“I first volunteered with ASF distributing books at the Ready to Learn Fair and soon learned about the various ways they support community members and education. As I searched for ways to give back to my community, joining the board with its passionate and active members was an easy decision.”
Originally from Canada, Marya has lived with her husband and their two daughters in Anacortes for nine years. She is the proud mother of an AHS junior and an AMS seventh grader. Most recently, Marya was a library assistant at APL. She graduated from Washington State University in Integrated Strategic Communication.
Marya is most excited about helping the community at all levels, from pre-K and post-grad scholarships to school block grants and helping families with back-to-school preparation. Welcome, Marya!

Bryan Klein is not actually new to our board as he did the primary development work for ASF’s website and originally set up the ASF Google Workspace. He continued to help with other IT work over the years. So, it seemed like a good fit to have him finally come on board.
“I see education, in all forms, as the most direct pathway to opportunities in life. Organizations like the ASF support so many programs and students in Anacortes, and I hope through this work we can improve the lives of others and help future generations find their own path toward success.”
Bryan and his wife Carrie-Anne have four children, two currently in school here and two proud AHS alumni. One of the reasons he's excited to be on the board is to give back to a community/organization that helped his own daughter when she attended UW.
For the last 25 years, Bryan has worked in the fields of Fire Research and Computer Simulation Technology, although his formal education is in Information Technology and General Physics. Originally from Rainier, Oregon, Bryan joined the US Air Force and served as an F-16 Avionics Journeyman. Last year, he started his own company, "Apex Erudition," providing professional education and consulting services. In addition to this, he continues his role as Senior Support Engineer at Thunderhead Engineering. Welcome, Bryan.
