As students return to their classrooms, they will be learning not only from their various teachers, but also from their peers and the entire school staff. We know that every student is unique and will be inspired in different ways, and we know how crucial it is for kids to feel empowered, to be confident in themselves in order to be open to learn and grow.

Our mission to inspire and empower students through enrichment is one we hold close to our hearts. It drives our fundraising efforts, it guides our allocation of funds, and it leads our board discussions every month. How can we best inspire and empower students? What programs, field trips, materials do they need to not only succeed but to blossom?

How we've Inspired and Empowered lately:

With our Early Education funding, we hosted Blue Water Behavioral Consulting, offering training for more than 30 preschool providers and kindergarten teachers.

In addition, thanks to a grant from Anacortes Women's Giving Circle/Skagit Community Foundation, we were able to fully fund the social-emotional learning curriculum RULER and mental health professional development for all three elementary schools. One of our main goals is to bridge the gap between state and local funding and what the district can fund. Mental health support continues to be a district priority, so we were thrilled to be able to support students and staff in this area.

September marks the return of many things. We return to the routine of the school day. Our garden flowers and vegetables start returning to the earth. Even the air returns to a cooler setting. Even so, ASF geared up and went full throttle. After our most successful Ready to Learn Fair since Covid, we were thrilled to partner for the 11th year with HF Sinclair to host the Fueling Education Fun Run, which does exactly that. All proceeds go directly to fueling classrooms and students: $10K to STEM/CTE scholarships, $10K to classroom science equipment, and a $5K health and safety grant to the school with the highest participation. Congratulations again, Mt Erie Elementary, for bringing the fuel!

If you weren't able to join us at the Fun Run, you can still help us inspire and empower Anacortes students. Donate. Or volunteer. Chances are, you’ll be inspired and empowered as well.
